GOOD NEWS!! Provided the cardiologist gives the okay, Kevin will receive a pancreas along with the kidney! Yay! Although it will require a four-month recovery time, it will be worth it in the end. He will no longer be a diabetic! How awesome is that?!
On 5/14 we had our Bunko Night fundraiser. There was an amazing, mouth-watering array of desserts, a great variety of prizes and people really seemed to have fun playing Bunko! Even the teenagers who were not exactly enthusiastic at the start, had fun. AND we raised nearly $1800 towards our goal of $6000. Almost one-third of the way!! Thanks so much to all those who attended and gave so generously, my friends Shelley McIntosh, Susan Morris and Cindy Saito for all their hard work putting the event together and Northpointe Church for allowing us to use the room for the evening. We are truly blessed.
We had our yard sale on 6/5. we made $360. Not bad. We had so much stuff left over we had aonther yard sale on the following weekend! We made another $400. Inch by inch, we get closer to our goal.
Today, 6/24, Kevin got the green light from the transplant team's cardiologist. He is good to go! His case will come up for review in two weeks, and then it could be any time after that....so exciting! And a little scary...
THE BIG NEWS: FINALLY, WE GOT THE GREEN LIGHT! Kevin is required to have his bags packed and be ready to go when "the call" comes!
Well, pooey. A Dr. from Cal Pacific called today. They are pulling their whole kidney/pancreas transplant program because of recent bad outcomes. While we appreciate their "proactiveness", we are still incredibly disappointed. He will not get a pancreas and will have to continue to deal with diabetes for the rest of his life.
IT'S A GO!!!! Kevin is on his way to San Francisco for his kidney transplant! Eric went with him, they are driving to his brother Dave's house and then he will drive them to SF. The operation is scheduled for 9:00 am. The other two and I will drive up Thurs. after Adam gets his braces off. Keep you posted....
